Zelenskyy commented, "We can already see that Russia is scrambling to resume dialogue as soon as it hears about cruise missiles." These remarks referred to recent musings about supplying advanced weapons to Ukraine.

Diplomatic Moves and Global Responses

A former American diplomat, Dan Fried, observed, "The Russian leader is attempting to disrupt the momentum toward greater pressure on Russia." He added, "We'll see on Friday, but the likelihood of achieving a truce by pressuring Moscow to engage sincerely seem to have decreased."

This development followed the US president had in recent days been strengthening his rhetoric toward Moscow until the recent conversation with Putin, which the Kremlin characterized as "highly open and trustful."

European Energy Restrictions and Economic Effects

EU authorities have established a mandate for energy suppliers into the EU to demonstrate their fuels are not made from Russian crude, as stated in a document released on Thursday. This step is included in the European Union's upcoming ban on imports of fuels processed from Russian crude, which is included in its 18th sanctions package against Moscow over its military actions in Ukraine.

Financial experts noted that investment patterns appeared to be factoring in the potential end of Indian imports of Russian crude. Several oil processors in India are getting ready to reduce purchases from Russia, with expectations of a gradual reduction, as reported by insiders familiar with the situation.

"This is a favorable turn for the crude oil price as it would eliminate a major buyer of Russian oil," commented Tony Sycamore, adding that crude values were stable on the trading day.

Military Situation and Energy Attacks

Kyiv's envoy to the United States, the Ukrainian ambassador, asserted that Moscow demonstrated its true attitude to peace through the "violence" of these attacks. "The Russian government yet again chose missiles over dialogue, making this assault into a direct blow to current peace efforts," Stefanishyna commented.

Meanwhile, the EU's top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, stated that the EU had no choice but to build up defensive systems against Russian threats. Kallas announced a "plan" to get ready for potential conflict by the end of the decade, including a new anti-drone system to be fully operational by the end of 2027.

This initiative, dubbed the "EU defensive program," is expected to begin working initially by the 2026 timeline and be completely operational by the following year. EU authorities hopes to obtain the backing of EU leaders at a meeting next week.
