The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Horror Merging Survival Horror and Social Deduction Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several fascinating future games, but one especially has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"This is a unique experience where a girl harboring multiple human souls inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the psyche," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of high school age. Inside her reside four separate souls, all possessing unique fears and motivations. These entities can take over at will, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Based on revealed footage, much of the narrative takes place within a eerie hospital, while other scenes show the main character navigating a abandoned chapel.

A World of Personal Horror

"What are you fearful of? What causes you uneasy?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. Authority figures. Things that seem trivial to others can trigger something primal within us. This game explores that idea — fears that are unique to each person."

The core gameplay loop revolves around managing the persona that emerges at a particular time. However, these souls will change involuntarily as you play. While exploring, each soul's fears become amplified and attack the protagonist in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Decision

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is populated by nurses all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the lobby have large blooms growing from their necks should be. Floral motifs are a recurring element, juxtaposing organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities inhabiting the protagonist is the "real" one. "All four souls asserts that the physical form belongs to them," notes a creator. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is real."

Once players believes a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, since each soul can lie or hide the truth, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] by your own actions," a voice suggests. "The final entity remaining might be a fake. In any case, your decisions are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed launch window, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
