Arsenal's manager remains confident that his team can continue to cope with injury setbacks after disclosing that star striker Kai Havertz will not return for several more weeks.

Extended Absence for Havertz

The German forward has been absent since the summer following an operation on his knee. Hoped to come back at the start of this month, Arteta revealed the player encountered a problem when increasing his training and could not progress “the next phase.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a group that is considerably steadier and has increased versatility,” stated the manager.

Tactical Decisions for Midweek Fixture

This news creates a tactical puzzle for Wednesday’s match against Brentford. Arteta must choose between persisting with Mikel Merino, who scored as a makeshift striker on Sunday, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly after a fitness issue in the latter stages. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus is also available post-recovery.

Defensive Concerns Linger

More doubts involve defender William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who sat out the weekend encounter. Consequently, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to keep their places in the backline for the Premier League front-runners.

The manager is convinced the substantial investment on reinforcements in the last transfer window has left Arsenal in a far better place to navigate such setbacks.

Greater Options Vital for Title Challenge

When asked if increased squad depth was benefiting their league challenge, Arteta was emphatic. “Indeed, as this campaign has presented greater challenges in some areas, and now the problems with the defence,” he added.

“History has shown us that we need to utilize players in different positions, and they must be capable to perform various functions if we aim to challenge at this level. And the case of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Arteta's Support for Frustrated Havertz

Speaking about the setback noted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided further detail. “His recovery was progressing. He could not go to the required step and now it’s looking like we have overcome that hurdle.”

He shared his personal desire to see him return. “Everyone is eager to have him. Truly, he is a footballer who, in my view, I love so much for the qualities he offers to the team, but his personality, his personality. I observe his frustration on the sidelines.”
